The Iowa Baseball team played their third and final game of a three-game fall schedule on Friday, defeating Heartland Community College 6-4 in 14 innings at Duane Banks Field. They are set to wrap up the fall next week with the best of three Black & Gold World Series.

At the plate, the Hawkeyes scuffled, putting up just six runs on 11 hits, after averaging 1.43 runs and 1.75 hits per game inning over their first two fall exhibitions. Miles Risley and Kooper Schulte were the lone guys with multiple hits, while Iowa struck out only seven times, they only were able to draw just five walks. On the mound, the Iowa pitching staff was stout for the majority of the night, allowing just four runs on nine hits. They tallied 11 strikeouts to just five free bases.

HawkeyeReport caught up with the head coach of the Hawkeyes, Rick Heller, to discuss the win over the Hawks. He gave some thoughts on the win, what he didn’t like so much from the offense, what he did like from the pitching staff and why a close game with some tight situations wasn’t the worst thing for his team to expereince.
