Athlete Lawson McGraw discusses Kansas State commitment

Kansas State has been on a bit of a heater on the recruiting trail of late. Last week, K-State landed eight prospects in a four day stretch. Included in the hot stretch was the second in-state commit of the 2026 cycle in Blue Valley West athlete Lawson McGraw.

“It’s a great program and has a ton of history,” McGraw said. “I love the coaches and I’ve been a fan my whole life.”

The moment the Kansas City area standout committed was a special one for him and his family, being a legacy of Kansas State.

“It’s a dream come true,” McGraw admitted. “It felt like I’m home. It’s really cool, most of my family has gone to K-State. Two of my uncles also played there so it feels great to carry on the tradition.”

McGraw’s commitment came just after he took an official visit to Kansas State.

“Spending time with the coaches and driving through Manhattan was my favorite part,” he noted.

A few things about his visit surprised the native of the Sunflower State. And most of it revolved around how honest and serious the staff was about the demands of being a Wildcat.

“They were very blunt on their goal and how difficult college football is,” McGraw shared. “I thought it was genuine and what I want to be apart of. A lot of schools only focus on the good stuff and easy parts.”

His future position is still up in the air for when he steps on campus at K-State.

“I’m going in as an athlete,” McGraw pointed out. “I could play offense or defense. I’m excited they’re excited about me. I feel like I can contribute on either side and there’s a lot of factors that will go into where I end up.”

McGraw also has a message to other recruits who are considering the Wildcats.

“It’s a great school with a great family atmosphere,” he stated. “It’s a great town and people who were in the program that stay near the program.”
