Buzz: Kansas State and Kansas may both empty the playbook

Our Kansas State buzz comes via a message board post at KSO and digs into all sorts of relevant topics in Wildcat land. We’re just about to crossover season (both football and basketball), and in the spirit of that, we have K-State football and basketball goods this week.
This year’s Sunflower Showdown is far more interesting than normal. It’s weird to say that in a year where neither team is likely to compete for a Big 12 title. Lance Leipold and Kansas are a middling Big 12 team so far, and Kansas State is falling far short of expectations to this point.
However, the game has great meaning to both. This is the year the Jayhawks can finally end the streak, but a loss could be detrimental to the legacy of Leipold. K-State could continue the streak even in a season that is under-achieving and have it catapult them the rest of the way or lose and be staring down the barrel of one of the worst years in a while.
Another intriguing part of it all is that teams both had a bye week. What can be accomplished in two weeks of preparation? Chris Klieman hasn’t been the best after bye weeks in Manhattan, while Leipold is 5-1 in that situation as the Kansas head coach.
