After a time in the transfer portal, Kansas State guard CJ Jones is returning to K-State. The announcement came from the Wildcats social media welcoming the senior guard back to Manhattan.

Jones entered the transfer portal April 22. While he was in the transfer portal, it was reported the guard took an official visit to DePaul. However, he did not commit to any school while in the transfer portal and was still available and Kansas State and the East St. Louis native will have a reunion this season.

The guard transferred to K-State last season from the University of Illinois Chicago. In his first season in The Little Apple, Jones averaged 5.7 points and 1.7 assists per game while playing 18.9 minutes per game. Jones’ season high in points came twice this past season with 12 points versus Mississippi Valley State and UCF. The guard likely had his best game of last season versus West Virginia tallying 10 points and six assists in 28 minutes in Kansas State’s win.

He also logged nine starts in the 33 games played last season and reached over 20 minutes 16 times last season. After another season of roster turnover, the guard will be the Kansas State returning leader in minutes and points per game from a season ago.

Is Kansas State finished adding to its 2025 roster? It may come down to whether or not Memphis transfer Tyreek Smith receives his waiver to play this season. Remember, Smith transferred to Kansas State from Memphis just before last season and is still awaiting a verdict on a waiver to play this season. Jones adds to a group of new guards at K-State including Serbian Andrej Kostic, Monmouth transfer Abdi Bashir, Akron transfer Nate Johnson and Memphis transfer PJ Haggerty.

Overall, Jones is the 14th player on its roster in 2025 depending on the status of Smith.
