Kansas State has added former Denver assistant coach Bill Peterson to fill an assistant coach position. Kansas State actually had two coaching positions open. The old positions were formerly held by Ulric Maligi, who was associate head coach at Kansas State before departing for Texas, and Franklin Miskelly, who was Director of Video and Analytics before departing to be an assistant coach at UL-Monroe.

Peterson comes to Kansas State with a lot of coaching experience. He has been in the coaching world since 1978 and has experience at the D1 level, NAIA, junior college level, G League and NBA. His most recent stop was as an assistant coach at the University of Denver this season, where the Pioneers went 11-21.

Prior to his time at the University of Denver, Peterson spent eight years at Baylor, where he also worked with Jerome Tang. He was Director of Basketball Operations from 2017-2019 before being named Special Assistant to the Head Coach from 2019-2024 and was part of the Bears’ national championship-winning team in 2021.

The late 1990s and early 2000s were when Peterson got his taste in the NBA. In 1998 he was a Special Assistant for the Golden State Warriors before being named Player Development Coach and Scout for the Dallas Mavericks from 1999-2000. He also spent 2007-2013 as an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks where the Bucks made the NBA Playoffs twice in his time. Interestingly, Peterson also spent 2014-2017 as the head coach for the Erie Bayhawks, the Orlando Magic’s G League affiliate.

He has also been an assistant coach at the college level at two other stops besides Denver. He spent 2000-2007 as the Associate Head Coach at Colorado State, where the Rams won their first Mountain West Tournament in 2003. Peterson was also at McNeese State from 1987-1994.

Kansas State still has one coaching spot to fill.
