Kansas State DB Marques Sigle serves one-game suspension

While Kansas State players like Keagan Johnson, Garrett Oakley, Darell Jones, Ty Bowman and Christian Duffie were not in uniform for the season opener because of injury, safety Marques Sigle was in uniform but was not available.
That was confirmed after the game by K-State head coach Chris Klieman. He noted that that the safety that was added in the offseason from North Dakota State via the transfer portal was indeed suspended for the first game of the season.
Klieman assured the hoard of media members in the press conference that Sigle was a good kid, though, and someone that they were more than willing to count on. The trust has not been broken and Sigle will assume his starting free safety role next week when Kansas State hosts Troy.
In his absence, it was Colby McCalister that logged the start for the Wildcats, alongside sophomore VJ Payne and senior Kobe Savage. It was the first career start for the Texas native that actually saw a lot of first team reps in the Spring when Savage was still recovering from an injury.

It is also the first year that McCalister has played safety in Manhattan. He was initially signed by K-State to be a cornerback. McCalister finished the day fifth in tackles for the Wildcats with three, all of them being of the solo variety. He had another outstanding play where he forced an offensive holding penalty.
Stay tuned to KSO for the latest on Sigle, the Kansas State injury report and more as we prepare fans for the upcoming contest that pits the Wildcats against the Trojans inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
