Kansas State has landed their second tight end of the class by flipping Aurora, Colorado tight end Andrew Metzger. As of a couple weeks ago, he was still committed to Colorado but abandoned the class after the hiring of Deion Sanders.

He was re-offered by the Buffaloes, but didn’t reciprocate that sustained interest from the home-state team. Instead, the Denver-area prospect gave credence to both K-State and Nebraska and made visits to both campuses before his second college choice.

His officially visit to Lincoln took place on December 9. His pledge to Kansas State is announced on the heels of his official visit to Manhattan this past weekend. However, Metzger also visited K-State for the Sunflower Showdown the last weekend of November.

Metzger’s commitment is the second time Chris Klieman and company have defeated Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers in as many weeks on the recruiting trail. Nebraska was among the schools in the Keagan Johnson chase as well, along with Texas A&M, Purdue, Arkansas and others.

The Colorado native is the third prospect Kansas State has flipped in the 2023 cycle, along with Wesley Watson and Will Lee. Ironically all three were originally committed to Pac-12 schools. Like Metzger, Watson was committed to Colorado before Karl Dorrell was fired, and Lee was tied to Oregon State.

Metzger tallied 25 catches for 334 yards and six touchdowns at Regis Jesuit High this past season.

He is the 23rd commitment for K-State in the 2023 cycle and second tight end, joining Wichita native Will Anciaux. It is also makes it three consecutive years a Colorado native has committed to Kansas State. In 2021, it was Brayden Wood and Jake Rubley and it was John Pastore in 2022.
