Kansas State guard CJ Jones enters transfer portal
Another 2024 transfer portal addition is leaving Kansas State. Former UIC transfer CJ Jones will once again test the open waters.
Jones came to Kansas State after two years with the Flames in the Missouri Valley. His length as a guard was intriguing for K-State, combined with 38% shooting from three in his sophomore season. Jones’ averages never fully translated into a set role for the Wildcats.
He appeared in 33 games this past season for the Cats, including nine starts. His three-point shooting dipped by nearly seven points though. For the year, Jones averaged 5.7 points per contest. His scoring in games topped out at 12 points multiple times, with his most impactful night likely coming in the victory over Arizona. In that game, Jones chipped in 10 points with four rebounds.
Just as murky as the role was at times in 2024-2025 for Jones, that was the reality he was facing entering 2025-2026 for Jerome Tang. His contributions would vary based on what K-State accomplishes in the transfer portal, nothing would be guaranteed for Jones who likely didn’t match the level the staff wanted him to get to.
