After seven seasons as the head coach at Kansas State, Chris Klieman is set to retire. The announcement comes on the heels of a 6-6 regular season and another bowl berth for Klieman. The Manhattan Mercury first reported the retirement.

Klieman was hired in December of 2018 after Bill Snyder retired. His former athletic director at North Dakota State, Gene Taylor, made the hire at K-State.

In his first season, K-State went 8-5 and took down a top five Oklahoma team in Manhattan. After a reset in the COVID season, K-State returned to win eight games and named Collin Klein as the offensive coordinator.

The move worked as Kansas State won its first Big 12 title in a decade during the 2022 season. Following that ten win season, Klieman would win nine games the next two seasons, before closing out his tenure with a 6-6 record.

In total, Klieman went 54-34 at K-State. Going 36-27 in Big 12 play during that time.

In addition to the wins, Klieman also brought some of the most impactful players in program history to K-State. Running back Deuce Vaughn, offensive lineman Cooper Beebe and defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah are sure fire Ring of Honor members. Klieman also landed two of the biggest recruits at K-State in 2023 quarterback Avery Johnson and 2025 tight end Linkon Cure.

Klieman is the second winningest coach in Kansas State history.
