Kansas State players of the game in win over TCU

Kansas State offensive MVP: Joe Jackson
Honestly, I was really torn with where to go for Kansas State’s offensive MVP. Joe Jackson had a career high 110 yards rushing in the win over TCU. It is an impressive back-to-back games for the sophomore running back. Jackson had 61 yards and was a key factor for the offense last week in the loss to Baylor and followed it up with a career day.
What impressed me was his physicality. K-State has missed his physical style of running and he seems to be back to the form we saw in glimpses in 2024. The ability to run the ball really won Kansas State the game and they were able to lean on the Horned Frogs in the second half.
Avery Johnson had another solid performance in the win. The junior quarterback threw for 198 yards and three scores. He was in total control of the offense and did not turn the ball over. Johnson threw one of his best passes of the season in the corner of the end zone to Jerand Bradley.
Garrett Oakley also set a K-State record Saturday for most career touchdowns by a tight end. Oakley caught four passes for 71 yards and two scores in the 41-28 victory over TCU.
Defensive MVP: Desmond Purnell
Who else would get defensive MVP? Usually I’m not one to only want the splash plays, but Desmond Purnell was everywhere Saturday. Purnell had two interceptions in the win, including a pick six which was his third touchdown of his career. The Topeka native was a step away from a third interception and nearly had a second pick six. He had as good of a game as a linebacker can have, including a sack.

Joe Klanderman just in general deserves a lot of credit Saturday as well. Big plays burnt the Wildcats a bit, but he clearly had his team prepared and really only held TCU to 21 points with the Horned Frogs scoring a garbage time touchdown.
Jordan Allen was another player who really popped. He was forcing pressure and even had a pass breakup on a blitz where he dropped into coverage which turned TCU over on downs.
K-State special teams MVP: Luis Rodriguez
Special teams did not do anything crazy, good or bad Saturday which is a bit of a change. Luis Rodriguez was perfect on all five of his extra points and made both of his field goals.
