Kansas State offensive MVP: Dylan Edwards

It’s good to have Dylan Edwards back in the Kansas State offense. He just has another gear and gives this team such a boost. His ability in the backfield made it easier on everyone, including quarterback Avery Johnson.

Edwards had a career high 20 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcats’ win over UCF. The swagger that he brings to K-State cannot be emphasized enough, and despite still having a leaky offensive line at times, led to Kansas State rushing for a season high 266 yards and averaging six yards per carry.

Johnson was the quarterback everyone has been hoping for since his freshman season. He ran the ball hard and effectively. The junior quarterback had 12 carries for 75 yards that included a 25 yard run on the first series of the game. He also added 168 yards passing and threw two touchdowns. Saturday was perhaps the most complete game of his career.

Defensive MVP: Austin Romaine

It was an up and down day for the K-State defense.

Austin Romaine was the Wildcats’ most consistent player on the unit. He also set the tone early on and was making plays all over the field and brought a lot of energy. Romaine finished with four tackles including a tackle for a loss, broke up a pass and hit quarterback Tayven Jackson.

Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder also flashed a few times, but did have a critical face mask to keep a UCF drive alive. Tobi Osunsnami and Chiddi Obiazor both had moments rushing the passer and forced some quick throws from UCF quarterbacks.

K-State special teams MVP: Simon McClannan

Simon McClannan is up there for most improved players on the entire Kansas State roster. He had a great game punting two weeks ago against Arizona and was also very impressive punting the ball today against the Knights.

McClannan punted the ball four times for 204 yards good for a 51 yard average and had a 65 yard punt.

Luis Rodriguez continues to be nails place kicking, making all of his extra points and went 2 for 2 on field goals and connected on a 48 yarder.
