Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards to miss time, ESPN reports

After appearing on just one play against Iowa State, Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards missed the remainder of Farmageddon in Ireland. Now it appears that his time out will extend to games played back home as well.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Wednesday morning that Edwards will miss the home-opener between Kansas State and North Dakota. Thamel went on to say that the left ankle injury, likely suffered on Edwards’ muffed punt to open the game last weekend, will have him doubtful for game three against Army next week.
On Monday, Chris Klieman noted that X-rays came back negative. He thought K-State would get a clearer picture come Wednesday. It apparently did in an unfortunate way for the Wildcats. Needing to bounce back from a season-opening conference loss, they will have to do it without their starting running back, who is yet to take a carry this season.
In 2024, primarily as DJ Giddens’ backup, Edwards ran for 546 yards and five touchdowns. His 7.4 yards per carry ranked as the best in the Big 12 last season for players with more than 55 carries.

Now Kansas State will turn to Joe Jackson. He carried the ball 12 times for 51 yards in the 24-21 loss to Iowa State. Behind him, DeVon Rice got five carries but managed just nine yards. Some younger freshmen running backs would be in line for carries against North Dakota as well.
In 2024, Jackson averaged 5.8 yards per carry as the tertiary back. In total, he had 227 rushing yards and a touchdown. He ran for 50 yards and caught a touchdown in the K-State Rate Bowl victory over Rutgers last December.
If Edwards is to miss the Army game as well, it leaves just one more game before the first bye week of Kansas State’s season. A Friday night contest at Arizona to wrap up non-conference play. After that, the Wildcats would be on pause for a week and then reboot conference play at home against UCF.
