Notebook: Klanderman wants more energy from Kansas State

Looking for more defensively
After four games the Kansas State defense has been a bit of a disappointment thus far. K-State defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman is hoping for a more fundamentally sound performance. During the bye week the Wildcats simplified things as much as they could to allow the guys to play faster.
Klanderman also voiced frustration stemming from the Arizona game where he did not see as much enthusiasm and energy as he wanted to see or that is typical from his unit. That has to change, beginning with the morning kick against UCF. It’s time to cut it loose.
Qua Moss’ improvement
Qua Moss has been a standout for Kansas State. He is someone who is still learning how to play and do things the way the staff wants him to do them. However, Moss is also someone Klanderman pointed out as playing with his hair on fire and never has to worry about his energy unlike others.
Moss is an infectious personality and is someone his teammates enjoy.
Players emerging post bye week
The bye week is always a good time to see more and more players emerge. Klanderman’s first mention of players performing well was Ryan Davis. Before the Arizona game, Davis had not practiced and was not really in the swing of things and was maybe a bit too amped up due to being an Arizona native.

After the bye week and having a game under his belt, Davis is looking to come on strong the rest of the season.
K-State defensive lineman Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder and linebacker Gabe Powers have had a good two weeks of practice as well. Both players have provided a handful of snaps per game thus far when they have been healthy.
Logan Bartley also got a mention from the Kansas State defensive coordinator as someone having a strong couple weeks. He has played in every game as a true freshman this season and has been another player who has brought a lot of energy to the table when he has played.
