Rapid Recap: Klein's thoughts on Kansas State struggles

Kansas State quarterbacks
Kansas State quarterback Will Howard said Tuesday afternoon that last week was probably the worst game he has had since his freshman year. It would be easy for Howard’s confidence to be shaken after a three interception performance.
The senior was hurting after the loss, but offensive coordinator Collin Klein pointed out that losses like that happen when playing quarterback at this level.
The K-State offensive coordinator even said he has a loss as a quarterback that still has stuck with him.
However, he does not believe Howard has lost any confidence in himself moving forward. Howard has built his confidence over a long period of time and knows everyone inside the Vanier Complex believes in him.
Avery Johnson has not played since the Missouri game. A bit of the reasoning behind it has been a feel for the game at that point in time. When he has been in it is because of something schematically Klein thinks they can exploit.
Klein believes they have a good plan for Johnson moving forward this season and for this week. He was quick to point out, though, that Howard is the guy for Kansas State at quarterback.
What happened in Stillwater
It has been well documented at this point that the K-State offense struggled Friday night against Oklahoma State. Klein called it a frustrating night in a lot of areas. Kansas State has to get better at getting more consistency from all areas of the offense.

It is not just one thing in particular that went wrong last Friday. It was a culmination of a lot of little things going wrong leading to the struggles. Taking care of the football, penalties and mental errors come to the top of the list of things Klein said went wrong offensively last week.
Praise for a K-State true freshman
K-State is still looking for some answers at wide receiver. The explosive play in the passing game has not been there just yet this season. A possible solution to solving the lack of explosiveness could be playing a younger wide receiver.
The first name mentioned by Klein was true freshman Jayce Brown. Klein believes there is a chance the Florida native could be on the field soon and make an impact.
A look at Texas Tech’s defense
Texas Tech’s defense is a long group of defenders that can really get after the quarterback. Their front is also twitchy and very athletic. Steve Linton had three sacks and two forced fumbles last week in the win against Baylor.
In the secondary, the Red Raiders like to play man coverage and have a lot of length as well. The secondary is also very aggressive and will look to make plays on the ball.
