Wells notebook: Offense looking improved

Jackson bringing some fire
Last week in Waco was the best game for Kansas State running back Joe Jackson this season. The Florida native ran for a season high 61 yards on a season high 13 carries. He ran hard and was really effective last Saturday. Kansas State offensive coordinator Matt Wells appreciates what Jackson brings to the table and especially what he did in Waco due to his toughness.
The junior running back jump started K-State after a rough few series last week due to his tough running and bringing energy.
Best the offense has been
Last week was also as crisp as the Kansas State offense has looked in a game this season. The offensive line seemed to be gelling more and more comfortable with each other. The pass game was good for most of the game and the run game was as well. Wells thought it was the best game in totality for his side of the ball this season. However, he was quick to point out that it was not perfect and also was not enough in the end.

While it was not perfect, Kansas State was still in a position to go and win the game and they did not. The Wildcat offensive coordinator even went back to the Arizona game and said the offense stunk in Tucson, but had a chance to win and could not like they did not in Waco. Wells can think of a handful of play calls he wants back from last week, but that is how football goes.
Praise for TCU
TCU’s defense is better than it was a year ago and the last time the Horned Frogs came to Manhattan in 2023. They are a well coached defense and specifically in the secondary. The Horned Frogs are really good in communication and passing routes off and do a good job of matching routes. TCU is also an experienced group in the secondary.
