About three weeks of training camp is in the books.

Is the defense way ahead of the offense? That depends on who you ask in Kansas State land. Not surprisingly, the defensive players would say yes. Everyone else without a dog in the fight has said it tends to go back and forth.

What hasn’t went back and forth is progress for a few players on the K-State roster. One I would deem the surprise of training camp due to the recognition and praise he’s earning on the record but also what has been said about him off the record.

We had been told it might be wise to temper enthusiasm on linebacker Asa Newsom just because of the injury he’s attempting to recover from and how it can take some time to fully recuperate just mentally. So much of that process is just re-gaining confidence in the leg.

Is that still the case? What is the latest on his progress?

Though I wouldn’t say he is the biggest surprise of training camp, another Kansas State defensive player yet to make his mark in Manhattan has also had a sensational month of August and could be climbing the depth chart.
