Joyce Edwards, the No. 2 player in the country, has set her commitment date, with LSU as a finalist. The five-star 2024 forward from South Carolina is announcing her decision on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Camden High School Gym at 5:45 ET, Edwards posted on X. Wednesday is the final day of the early signing period.

Edwards has a final three schools of Clemson, LSU, and South Carolina ahead of her decision. The two in-state schools have continued to press, but it was LSU that made a big splash late in September, hosting her for an official visit. Edwards went on her official visit to South Carolina two weekends ago on Oct. 28th, the final chance for Dawn Staley to try to win another highly touted in-state target.

The star forward is believed to be down to LSU and South Carolina for her decision. LSU has made several trips to watch her volleyball matches, taken in-home visits earlier in the year with the staff, and made Edwards a priority throughout the summer. Now, Edwards will finally choose where she wants to play her college ball at.

Edwards also visited Texas A&M and Stanford, but it was always trending towards LSU against the two in-state schools.

Edwards as a player

Edwards is a 6-foot-2 forward who averaged 28.7 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 3.6 steals last year as a junior, earning her the 2022-23 Gatorade South Carolina Girls basketball Player of the Year. She led Camden to the AAA State championship game and earned AAA Player of the Year

“Joyce has a complete game, and she’s not stereotypical in any way,” Camden head coach Natalie Norris told High School Sports Report. “She can play any position 1 through 5, and play it very well. That makes her extremely difficult to game plan for because she can affect the game in so many different ways.

“We have (used her 1 through 5). We’ve got some good guards, so she hasn’t had to do that much. There’ve been a couple of games where we’ve had some foul trouble and she’s played the point. She’s a great distributor of the ball. When they pinch and squeeze her, she can find the open man.”

Edwards also played for Team USA this summer, as the youngest player on the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup team, scoring 12.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 18.5 minutes per game over seven games in Madrid.
