WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

We continue to monitor and bring you all the team’s transfer portal news with our Transfer Portal Headquarters item. That includes Michigan State DT Simeon Barrow going into the portal … as someone Miami has interest in. Also Houston WR Sam Brown is one to keep an eye on. Check that out.

This morning we also have the five key things we learned about this year’s Miami Hurricanes defense off spring ball. Plus check out On3’s J.D. PicKell talking about what he sees in Canes QB Cam Ward and this UM offense.

In recruiting?

Miami four-star 2025 quarterback commit Luke Nickel didn’t only attend the Hurricanes’ spring game last weekend to get a feel for Miami’s progress after a month of spring practices and workouts — he also wanted to take advantage of an opportunity for face time with some of Miami’s top recruiting priorities and prospects he’s hoping to add to the 2025 class. Find out about that.

We also catch up with Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal School standout 2026 offensive tackle Brady Sakowitz off his visit for Miami’s Spring Game.

Check out six priority recruits we identify as Miami trending with off the spring as well, and we have the Miami and Michigan perspectives on where things stand with commit Elijah Melendez.

Plus there was the basketball news that not one, but both Cavinder twins are returning to Miami.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Need to develop a QB … Posted by Michstfr

Let me just say first I think Miami is looking at a really good year. Ward is legit, I think they get Martinez and a few others from the Portal.

But this staff needs to demonstrate they can recruit and develop a QB not just get a plug and play elite QB from the Portal.

And I say this for 2 reasons:

1) Injuries happen. I hope Ward makes it thru the whole year, but who knows? You need to have a back up who is ready to step in and play
2) You cannot count on the Portal delivering a elite talent that is ready to step in immediately.

It is not so much a criticism just an observation.

With Ward gone after this year and Brown gone in the Portal need to develop a credible back up who would be ready to start in 2025.

I think the obvious candidate to step up in the Fall pre-season will be Judd,

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I think Byron Louis, I talked to him a good bit, he’s a good player and he definitely likes it (in Miami). We made a good impression on him. Solomon Thomas, he’s a really good player as well. I would love to flip him from FSU, and I think it’s starting to lean that way in that we’re going to and we’re going to be in that all the way to the end. Then Brock (Schott), I was talking and texting with him the whole time before he committed. …Was just kind of pitching to them that this is the place for them.”
