When Hempfield (Pa.) 2024 defensive lineman Deyvid Palepale received news of his offer from the University of Miami, he described the moment as special for many reasons.

“I was stoked because that was a big one,” Palepale told CaneSport. “Especially with the history of Miami, ‘The U’ it just means a lot.”

The 2024 prospect is currently unranked in the 2024 On3 Consensus or the 2024 On300 but has a host of programs after his talents. Palepale currently holds offers from a handful of Power 5 programs, such as Penn State, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and USC among others.

“It’s all a dream come true,” he said. “I’ve always dreamed of this, and you can only dream of situations like this, so I’m blessed.”

When asked to describe his style of play, the 6-foot-2, 305-pound defensive tackle kept it simple.

“On the field, I cause chaos,” Palepale said. “I can read the offense and defense, whether I’m on offense or defense. I’d say my IQ is pretty high football-wise, and I just play with aggression.”

The Nittany Lions are trending for the Alaska native who moved to Central Pennsylvania a few years ago, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but he says the Hurricanes are among the programs he is seriously considering.

“I’ve always seen Miami on TV,” Palepale said. “They’re exciting, they play with swagger, and I like them a lot. I have not been able to see them in person, but that’s one of the things on my to-do list.”

Since receiving the offer from the Hurricanes, PalePale has begun to build a strong relationship with defensive line coach Joe Salave’a.

“He’s very personable, and we’re both Samoans,” Palepale said. “I kind of just get that sense of home. I’m really close with my culture, so it’s just big and it’ll play a role in my decision.”

Palepale currently plays both offensive and defensive line, but projects as a defensive lineman at the next level. Palepale considers academics to be one of the most important aspects of a potential program.

“Definitely the academics,” he added. “How they set me up for my ultimate dream goal, which is playing an NFL but if not, that’s where the academics come in. Just them putting me in a place to succeed.”

CaneSport’s take

Palepale may be unranked in the 2024 On3 Consensus or the 2024 On300 at the moment, but that will soon change after an impressive junior season. The defensive lineman raved about Hurricanes coach Joe Salave’a and plans on visiting Coral Gables soon. “There are only good things to speak of Miami and I just can’t wait to get on campus.”
