RADAR '28: Brother Rice DE/TE Jayden Bell stands out at Michigan State camp, gains offer

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Birmingham Brother Rice rising sophomore Jayden Bell was a Plan A person of interest at the outset of Michigan State’s Prospect Camp on Sunday, and by the time he left campus, he had a Spartan scholarship offer. Of the 280-plus campers who participated on Saturday, Bell was the only one who performed in the noon skill position camp and the 4 p.m. big man camp. After standing out as a tight end during the skill camp, Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa gathered Bell up and had a word with him. “Coach asked me if I was going to the second camp, with the linemen,” Bell said. “I asked my parents if we had time to stay for the second camp, and he said he wanted to offer me.” When the scholarship offer officially came, Bell felt satisfied about his day in East Lansing. “It surprised me a little bit,” Bell said. “I was a little excited and surprised at the same time because I thought he was just coming to talk to my parents.” But then it became more serious when the offer was extended. Bell is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound EDGE prospect. He has pure pass rushing skills, with a quick take-off, long arms and the ability to dip his shoulder while turning beginning to turn the corner. He's still working on his edge-bending technique, but there seems to be a lot of athleticism and flexibility to work with, as well as good strength for his age. Michigan State is the fourth Power Four school to offer, joining Alabama, Pitt and Vanderbilt. He also has offers from UMass and MAC schools.
