Can Matt Gulbin outperform Tanner Miller’s 2024 season at center for Michigan State?

AST LANSING, Mich. - In the first of a series of articles comparing the 2025 Michigan State depth chart to last season, today SpartanMag begins where each play begins - at the center position. With Tanner Miller having graduated, Michigan State hit the portal for a successor. The Spartans nabbed Wake Forest offensive guard Matt Gulbin. I like him. Gulbin (6-4, 317, R-Sr., Wilton, Conn.) started 22 games at guard and one at center at Wake Forest. He was honorable mention All-ACC last year. He was ranked among the top three offensive guards in the ACC last year by Pro Football Focus. LAST YEAR: Miller started all 12 games for Michigan State and had a solid-to-strong year. He had been second team All-Pac 12 at Oregon State, and quickly became a unit leader and team leader for the Spartans. He ranked No. 6 in the Big Ten among centers in run blocking grade by PFF, and No. 7 in the Big Ten in pass blocking efficiency. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent. THIS YEAR: Gulbin did not disappoint as Michigan State’s new center during spring practice. Michigan State offensive line coach Jim Michalczik says he won’t name a starting unit until well into August, but everyone knows Gulbin is the man at center. (MORE inside SpartanMag.com).
