EAST LANSING, Mich. – In the fifth of a series of articles comparing the 2025 Michigan State depth chart to last season, on a position-by-position basis, today SpartanMag provides year-over-year analysis of the quarterback position.  Michigan State returns junior Aidan Chiles as its starting quarterback after an educational sophomore season. Alessio Milivojevic served as the No. 3 QB last fall as a true freshman and will head into fall camp as the No. 2 man. Milivojevic (pronounced MILL-uh-VOY-uh-vick) has steadily gained trust in practice.    Ryland Jessee (6-4, 217, R-Fr., San Diego) served as the No. 4 quarterback last year. He is competing with true freshman Leo Hannan (6-3, 215, Long Beach, Calif.) for the No. 3 spot. LAST YEAR: Aidan Chiles (6-3, Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) worked through spats of inconsistency last year. He flashed high-end ability at times, but was bogged down by an erratic running game, poor pass protection and middling receiving targets. Chiles showed a strong arm in completing passes to the wide side of the field, but was inconsistent with his reads and the deep ball.  Chiles finished No. 12 in the Big Ten in QB rating at 128.7, and was No. 7 in the Big Ten in yards per pass attempt at 7.5. Chiles finished in a three-way tie in the Big Ten for the most interceptions, with 11.  Milivojevic was the No. 3 QB last fall, behind Chiles and North Dakota transfer Tommy Schuster, who has since graduated. Milivojevic’s lone pass attempt of the season in 2024 resulted in an interception against Rutgers last November. THIS YEAR: Chiles was listed at 217 pounds last year. He is up to 230 right now, heading into fall camp.  Two things could and should help Chiles improve over last year’s performance: His year of experience, and the support he will receive from new quarterbacks coach Jon Boyer. Boyer was added as a full-time staffer, coming from Oregon State, after the NCAA expanded the number of on-field assistants a program can have. (Go inside for exclusive comments from new QBs coach Jon Boyer on Chiles, and his back-ups, including Alessio Milivojevic).
