Michigan State cornerback Marqui Lowery entered the transfer portal on Thursday, per On3 insider Pete Nakos. Lowery entered as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

Lowery (6-0, 184) spent three seasons in East Lansing after transferring in from Louisville in February 2021. He originally committed to former head coach Mel Tucker

Lowery played the first three games of the 2023 season before missing the rest of the year with an injury. Lowery totaled four tackles and two pass deflections last season.

The Charlotte, N.C., native played in five games during the 2022 season. He played a majority of his 36 snaps on special teams that season.

Lowery enjoyed his most productive season as a Spartan in 2021. Lowery played 223 snaps at cornerback that season. He earned two starts, one in Michigan State’s loss to Ohio State and one in the Spartans’ Peach Bowl victory over Pittsburgh. Lowery totaled 22 tackles and one pass deflection that season.

Lowery has played a total of 16 collegiate games over four seasons. He has logged 30 career tackles, including two tackles for loss.

A former three-star prospect from Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High School, Lowery was the No. 1047 recruit in the 2020 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the No. 136 cornerback and No. 41 player from North Carolina.

Michigan State will return redshirt junior Charles Brantley, sophomore Chance Rucker, junior Ade Willie, redshirt sophomore Caleb Coley and redshirt senior Khary Crump, among others, at cornerback. The Spartans also signed a three-man high school cornerback class of Jaylen Thompson, Andrew Brinson and Keshawn Williams

Junior Dillon Tatum also played cornerback last season, though he has repped more often at safety this spring.

Lowery’s classmate, defensive tackle Simeon Barrow, also entered the transfer portal on Thursday. Michigan State has also seen offensive lineman Braden Miller, cornerback Eddie Pleasant, running back Jaelon Barbarin and linebacker Ma’a Gaoteote leave the program during the spring transfer window.

The spring transfer window is open from April 16-30.
