East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State will look to bounce back from its Thanksgiving loss to No. 3 Arizona when it hosts the Georgia Southern Eagles Tuesday evening at the Breslin Center. 

Georgia Southern is 0-6, with an average margin of defeat of 14.7 points. The Eagles have played the likes of Georgia Tech, Eastern Michigan and Northeastern to begin the season. They allow an average of 85 points per game. Michigan State will be the Eagles’ first ranked opponent of the year. 

Georgia Southern has played only one true home game this season.

Georgia Southern attempts nearly 30 three-pointers per game. The Eagles are shooting 32.5 percent from three as a team this season.

A brief look at Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern is led by fifth-year senior and Hampton transfer Deuce Dean. Dean is averaging 12.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and two assists on 36.7 percent shooting (36.4 percent from three) through six games this season. 

South Alabama transfer Jamar Franklin ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting (37 percent from three).

The Eagles feature six new transfers this season, including former Ohio State forward Eugene Brown III, a former four-star prospect who spent three seasons in Columbus. Brown has yet to play this season due to injury.

Georgia Southern’s coach, Charlie Henry, is a native of Canton, Mich. He played four seasons (2005-09) at Madonna University in Livonia, Mich., before beginning his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant for now-Alabama coach Nate Oats at Romulus (Mich.) High School.

In 2019, Henry reunited with Oats at Alabama. Henry was an assistant under Oats from 2019-23 before accepting the Georgia Southern job ahead of this season.
