Michigan State Coach Jonathan Smith: 'What's the alternative? You quit? You run? Start blaming others?'

EAST LANSING, Mich. - If Michigan State athletic director J Batt is planning to move on from head coach Jonathan Smith this week or in the days ahead, of remain in support of Smith, the Spartan head coach has received no indication in either direction. During his weekly press conference on Monday, Smith - whose Spartan football team has lost eight straight games - was asked how confident he is that he will be back in the same position next year.  “I think in this landscape of college football, what it is, that's always a solid question,” Smith said. “You look across the country and changes are moving. I go back to understanding that each time you sign up college coaching, nowadays, it's a week-to-week thing. “We've got another week to go do it. I'm still really confident in the people that are in the building right now. Obviously, we've got to find ways to get things better. I'm excited about the opportunity to keep doing it.” Smith was then asked if anything has been communicated to him from Michigan State about his immediate future.  “No,” Smith said.
