Michigan State HC Jonathan Smith tells BTN that Spartans are ready to ‘let it rip’

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith had a full, diverse day on Thursday, the first day of game prep for the season opener against Western Michigan. After practice, Smith attended a function at Spartan Stadium with athletic director J Batt in speaking with representatives from Michigan State football’s corporate sponsors and partners. Immediately after exiting that event, promotional personnel positioned Smith in front of a Spartan backdrop, behind crowd barrier ropes, where he posed for photos with a long line of Spartan fans for more than two hours. He smiled for every photo. Earlier in the day, after exiting the practice field, Smith spoke briefly with Dave Revsine of the Big Ten Network as part of BTN's training camp tour of all 18 conference campuses and teams. Michigan State was the 17th trip out of 18. BTN will be in Ann Arbor on Friday. When interviewing Smith, Revsine touched on all of the main preseason topics of conversation surrounding Michigan State football heading into the 2025 season, but hit on an interesting tangent when asking Smith what he learned about Michigan State in year one that makes him more comfortable heading into year two.
