Michigan State QB commit Kayd Coffman, and other targets, smooth at Detroit SMSB 7-on-7

DETROIT - Eight players with Michigan State scholarship offers were on the field during the last session of scrimmaging at the Sound Mind Sound Body 7-on-7 Showcase, Thursday night, led by Spartan quarterback commitment Kayd Coffman. East Kentwood, Detroit Cass Tech, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and Harper Woods faced one another in a round-robin of 7-on-7 scrimmaging, Thursday under the lights at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University. No scores were kept. But there were plenty of highlight plays. Mylan Griggs, a 2028 WR/DB from Detroit Cass Tech who received an Michigan State scholarship offer on Sunday after a standout performance at the Spartans’ 7-on-7 tournament, came down with a leaping touchdown grab amid double coverage in the back corner of the end zone to highlight the Cass vs OLSM game. Coffman was his usual sharp self, especially in the final scrimmage of the night when his East Kentwood team went against Cass Tech and 2028 quarterback Donald Tabron. Those two showed off the precision, touch, quick releases and arm strength which has attracted numerous Power Four scholarship offers. They put on a good show, especially with ball control passing. “This was the first time for me facing Cass Tech in anything,” Coffman said. “So it was nice to have that. It’s good to play some teams we don’t often play. Different competition is always good for the soul.” One of the more interesting direct matchups came when Griggs (6-0, 160, Soph.) covered Orchard Lake St. Mary’s big-bodied wide receiver Chad Willis (6-2, 187, Jr.) (More inside SpartanMag.com)
