EAST LANSING, Mich. - Jonathan Smith’s comments on running back Makhi Frazier were my biggest takeaway from the head coach’s first weekly press conference of the season, Monday at Spartan Stadium. “I think with Makhi Frazier, he is getting close to being a complete back,” Smith said. “I mean, he can put his foot in the ground, physical, make you miss, catching the ball out of backfield. I think he showed some of that during fall camp, and I think that's grown to be a weapon for him.” We’ve heard bits and pieces about Frazier and fellow sophomore Brandon Tullis at running back throughout the spring and preseason camp. We’ve detected some progress, especially in light of some of the positive comments after the second scrimmage of August. But Smith saying that Frazier is “close to being a complete back” is strong, tangible stuff. (MORE inside SpartanMag).
