Tre Holloman visits former Michigan State teammates at Moneyball, 'My heart's still here'

HOLT, Mich. - Tre Holloman surprised some teammates with a cameo appearance as a spectator at the Moneyball Pro-Am basketball league on Thursday night, but the former Michigan State Spartan might have been even more surprised by the reception he received. More than 1,000 fans were in attendance at Holt High School for the Championship Game of the Moneyball Pro-Am league, with the usual thick concentration of Spartan basketball fans. As fans became aware of Holloman’s presence, a steady stream of them approached Holloman for autographs and photos. Holloman entered the transfer portal and left Michigan State for North Carolina State just days after the Spartans’ season ended with a loss to Auburn in the Elite Eight. Holloman had the worst shooting night of his career in that game, going 0-for-10 from the floor as the Spartans lost to No. 1 seed Auburn, 70-64. Holloman cried effusively in the locker room after the game, and then shocked Spartan fans by his decision to leave the program. NC State not only offered an attractive NIL package, the Wolfpack also convinced him and his camp that the opportunity to be the starting point guard would bolster his post-college professional life more than playing a final season at Michigan State. The emotions of that decision have long subsided. Holloman was asked to sign shirts, hats, shoes and pose for photos with Michigan State fans who lined up spontaneously to steal a moment with him. Some offered hugs. (More inside SpartanMag.)
