Recruitment

Smigiel nearly committed to Michigan long before this year’s spring pledge to the Wolverines. He picked up an offer from the program early in his high school career and strongly considered U-M before Brady Hart committed and Smigiel picked Florida State. The stars aligned for the Newbury Park standout and Michigan once again after Hart decommitted, Smigiel reopened his recruitment and Chip Lindsey joined the staff. Lindsey made the California quarterback his top priority and secured his commitment in April. Smigiel put up video game numbers throughout his high school career, picking up offers from Oregon, Notre Dame, Florida and many others. The signal-caller missed the second half of his senior season due to an ACL inury.

He Said It

“I think I’m going to be able to be developed in every single factor of my life at Michigan, and I think it starts with the people they recruit,” Smigiel said. “I think they recruit, not only really amazing football players, but really amazing human beings that are willing to work hard every single day and get better.

“Obviously, you want to surround yourself with the best, and I think that’s what you get at Michigan.”

They Said It

“Michigan was always on top of my list, but I don’t make the decisions. He is very deliberate in what he does and the decisions that he makes, so I’m glad it came full circle.” — Joe Smigiel, the quarterback’s father and head coach

Scouting Report

“Brady Smigiel is a polished, developed, productive quarterback prospect who has a lot of experience at the high school level so far. He’s advanced relative to the amount of snaps he’s seen. Playing for his dad at Newberry Park, he has a really good grasp for what they run on offense. He has put up good, raw passing numbers throughout his career. I thought we saw some improvement from him as a junior — particularly with the mobility. He’s worked hard at adding movement skills to his game. That should be commended.”  — Rivals director of scouting and rankings Charles Power.
