Michigan officially signed Rivals300 Needham (Mass.) St. Sebastian’s interior offensive lineman Marky Walbridge Wednesday.

Here is everything you need to know about the mauling Wolverine tackle prospect on signing day.

The Skinny

Height:
6-5.5
Weight:
285 pounds
Industry Ranking:
No. 241 overall, No. 18 interior offensive lineman, No. 2 in Massachusetts

Recruitment

Michigan has pretty strong recruiting roots in New England at this point, and Walbridge emerged as the next major target out of that region early in the cycle. Both offensive line coach Grant Newsome and head coach Sherrone Moore made trips to St. Sebastian’s at points to see the rapidly rising prospect. He emerged as one of Michigan’s top priority tackle targets this year. Walbridge kept his recruitment extremely quiet and did almost no interviews throughout the process but took official visits to Penn State, Wisconsin, Alabama and U-M before committing to the Wolverines June 25.

He Said It

“Coach (Sherrone) Moore came by last March, and he gave me the offer after that,” Walbridge said. “I was super excited. I’ve been watching them since I was little. I was super pumped to get that offer, and I’m still really interested in them.”

They Said It

“I’m super excited to play on the same side of the ball because he’s a mean f—ing dude. He’s a stud, and he’s great on defense as well. He’s an immovable object out there.” — Michigan quarterback commit Peter Bourque.

“He’s never satisfied with his own play. It’s not like he said, ‘I’ve arrived.’ I feel like he’s always asking to get better, he’s looking for coaching, he wants to get better and he knows that he has a super high ceiling, but he’s willing to do that work to get where he wants to go and where Michigan wants him to be too.” — St. Sebastian’s head coach Dan Burke

Scouting Report

“Marky Walbridge is underrated by the industry, in my opinion. He’s a guy who can play guard or tackle at Michigan. He carries his weight really well. He’s probably in the 290-300-pound range but looks like a 260-pounder. He moves well at that size. He has good versatility. He’s physical. He’s a really well-rounded offensive lineman. I think he will find himself in Michigan’s starting five given the lack of holes in his game and his versatility. He gives you a lot of options.

“He reminds you of the type of offensive linemen Michigan had on the national championship team. It was a great unit with very few weaknesses. I think Walbridge fits the bill. He deserves to be talked about a little more than he is.” — Rivals director of scouting and rankings Charles Power.
