Pro Football Hall of Famer and Michigan icon Charles Woodson is bringing inspiration from the Wolverines’ past to help build his legend with a new craft spirit line.

As a Heisman Trophy recipient, college football national champion and Super Bowl winner, Woodson left little to be done on the gridiron. Four first-team NFL All-Pro selections, nine Pro Bowl appearances, an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (1998) and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2009). It’s well-known that his football resume reads much longer than that before you get to spirit brand owner; nonetheless, Woodson has now centered that same passion he had between the lines into his latest release.

Woodson Whiskey is currently on its fifth batch, which according to the former defensive back was labeled to honor Michigan basketball’s legendary Fab Five. ‘Batch 5 – Maize Label’ is a six-month, accelerated-aged whiskey described to have “a light front end of Cabernet berries with a smooth bourbon middle and a long-lasting carmel finish.” The mash is made in Kentucky, put through an aging process using ultrasonic waves and then the product is finished at a distillery in San Diego. Woodson uses the same French Oak wine barrels from his Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wine-making process for this whiskey venture.

Woodson via Twitter: “Inspired by a group of cats years ago. Young, fabulous freshman came to the University of Michigan, and they wow’d us.[…] Batch Five, new label. For all my collectors out there… must have, baby. Woodson Whiskey. Cheers.”
