Charles Woodson Jr. will make his first recruiting trip to Michigan this weekend, his coach David Aubrey informed The Wolverine. The son of the U-M Heisman Trophy winner is a heavily recruited, four-star class of 2027 defensive back.

Michigan offered this summer, extending a scholarship to the Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona High standout June 4. His coach believes the safety prospect plans to be in Ann Arbor Oct. 4. Woodson will watch the program host Wisconsin in its Big Ten home opener.

Woodson told The Wolverine earlier this summer that his Michigan offer felt “great.” The Wolverines reached out to him very quickly this summer once the contact window opened up for the junior class. Michigan secondary coach coach LaMar Morgan is making him an early priority in this class.

“They were cool, just really tryna gain connections now that they can talk to 27s,” Woodson said in June.

The Wolverine assistant made the trip to the Orlando area to attend Woodson’s 5 a.m. practice, and the defensive back’s coach said the visit went well. Woodson’s father will be in Ann Arbor for Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff this weekend.

Kentucky, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and others have also offered the coveted defensive back. Michigan took a patient approach to his recruitment but is now showing a lot of love to the legacy prospect. Woodson is the son of Wolverine royalty but, according to his coach, the staff is doing a good job recruiting him as his own person.

And while Michigan will always be one of the first teams mentioned in his recruitment, his relationship with the Wolverine staff remains in its early stages. Getting him on campus for a game day visit is an important early step in his recruitment.

The Rivals Industry Ranking considers Woodson the No. 343 recruit in the 2027 class. He’s the No. 33 safety prospect nationally and the No. 37 prospect in Florida as a 5-11 defensive back. Woodson recently received an invite to the Navy All-American Bowl. Aubrey touted Woodson’s willingness to tackle. Through 5 games with reported stats this fall, the defensive back logged 34 total tackles, 6 passes defended and a pick 6.

Michigan holds three class of 2027 commitments so far this year, all on the offensive side of the ball. Top 100 quarterback Peter Bourque, three-star interior offensive lineman Tristan Dare and three-star interior offensive lineman Louis Esposito all pledged to the program this fall.
