Michigan was severely short-handed in the win over Purdue, without graduate safety Rod Moore, senior , junior running back Justice Haynes, linebacker Jimmy Rolder and sophomore linebacker Cole Sullivan. During the course of the game, senior tight end Marlin Klein, graduate wide receiver Donaven McCulley and senior linebacker Jaishawn Barham all went down and didn’t return.

One of the key focuses of the bye week is to get players healthy, head coach Sherrone Moore said on the ‘Inside Michigan Football’ radio show.

“Really looking to get guys back, try to do as much as we can to get everybody’s bodies back, because physical games these past games, physical in all phases,” the Michigan coach said. “Execution is not maybe exactly where we need it to be in every phase. But the physicality is at a super high [level], so we want to do everything we can to get those guys back but still give guys an opportunity to get better at football.”

Moore provided a positive update on Barham, and indicated that Rolder and Sullivan could be back at some point this season. Barham left the game after only two snaps.

“We’re going to look to see how all of those guys are doing,” Moore said. “Start with Jaishawn, who didn’t play the game on Saturday, went in for a couple plays and just had an issue. I feel like we’ll give him back. We’ll allow him this week to recover, so feel like we’ll be in good shape there.

“Jimmy and Cole, getting closer and closer. We’ll know more as the week goes and next week, but those guys are getting closer and closer to getting back, so hopeful on those guys and where they’re going to go.”

Michigan has kept players engaged in meetings and practice even while they’re out, which is important for when they return so they can hit the ground running.

“Obviously, they’re involved in all of the meetings, meeting extra, just like they would if they were playing,” Moore said. “And when they’re doing their rehab stuff, make sure that they’re still getting the football stuff that you get in practice, that you don’t just separate them, because I think that’s where there’s depression there. The guys that get away from the football piece and can’t be around practice and do all that, that’s when they feel down. Trying to do as much as we can to involve them in the football piece.”

Michigan won’t take the gridiron until a Nov. 15 game against Northwestern at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
