Michigan basketball: Big Ten schedule released for 2025-26

The Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team, which enters the season as a potential national title contender, will open Big Ten play on Dec. 6 at home against Rutgers, it was announced Thursday.

U-M’s other December Big Ten opponent is a road trip to Maryland on Dec. 13.

The Big Ten season concludes on March 8 at home against Michigan State. The Wolverines will head to East Lansing on Jan. 30. Other two-play opponents on this year’s schedule include Penn State (road, Jan. 6; home, Feb. 5) and Ohio State (home, Jan. 23; road, Feb. 8).

The page flips to 2026 on Jan. 2 with USC coming to Ann Arbor. Other January games include Wisconsin (Jan. 10), at Washington (Jan. 14), at Oregon (Jan. 17), Indiana (Jan. 20), Nebraska and (Jan. 27). The other February dates include a trip to Northwestern (Feb. 11), UCLA (Feb. 14), at Purdue (Feb. 17), Minnesota (Feb. 24) and at Illinois Feb. 27). Michigan will play at Iowa on March 5.

The Big Ten Tournament is set for March 10-14 at the United Center in Chicago. Michigan will look to defend the conference tournament championship it won in 2025 in Indianapolis.

In the non-conference, Michigan opens the season on Nov. 3 against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at Crisler Center, followed by a neutral-site game against Wake Forest at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Nov. 11. The Wolverines and Demon Deacons played last season at Greensboro, North Carolina.

Michigan hits the road for the first time on Nov. 14 against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by a home game against Middle Tennessee on Nov. 19. From there, it hits the 2025 Players Era Championship in Las Vegas, which runs from Nov. 24-27. U-M will play San Diego State on Nov. 24, a Sweet Sixteen rematch with Auburn on Nov. 25 and then close the event with a to-be-determined opponent on either Nov. 26 or 27.

Michigan kicks off a home-and-home series with Villanova on Dec. 9 at Crisler Center, then have a 12-day break before hosting LaSalle on Dec. 21. Following another brief hiatus, U-M returns to action on Dec. 29 against McNeese.

The non-conference slate closes out in February with a game against Duke in Washington, D.C., set for Feb. 21.
