Michigan Wolverines basketball is on its once-every-four-years overseas trip. The Maize and Blue are in Europe, where they’ll play three exhibition games in total, the first of which being an 86-68 loss to Fos Provence Basket.

Michigan went with a starting lineup of graduate point guard Jaelin Llewellyn, sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin, freshman guard Jett Howard junior forward Terrance Williams II and junior center Hunter Dickinson.

The Wolverines shot 39.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point land. Michigan struggled to take care of the ball — with 23 turnovers to just 14 assists. Fos, on the other hand, shot an efficient 55.2 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from deep.

Michigan played 13 players. Of note, Duke transfer forward Joey Baker, who’s recovering from a hip procedure, and freshman forward Youssef Khayat, who joined the team on its trip and met his teammates for the first time, did not play.

Dickinson led Michigan with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, including one made three-pointer on two attempts. He added 10 rebounds and two assists with four turnovers.

Llewellyn added 15 points of his own, connecting on six of his 13 overall shot attempts and three of his seven triple tries. Llewellyn transferred in from Princeton this offseason.

Freshman Dug McDaniel had an up-and-down performance at the point guard spot in his Michigan debut of sorts. He played nearly 17 minutes and scored six points (3-of-6 from the field) with two rebounds, one assist and five turnovers. He did have two steals, with one leading to a highlight-reel play.

Only one other Michigan player — Howard — scored in double figures along with Dickinson and Llewellyn, with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting and 2-of-5 from deep.

Sophomore guard/forward Isaiah Barnes played 15 minutes off the bench and nailed two three-pointers on as many attempts.

Michigan did not play yesterday. Here’s a recap of Saturday in France from MGoBlue.com:

“After a great evening dinner experience, the Wolverines were up early for breakfast followed by a guided tour in the famed Musée du Louvre,” the Michigan site wrote. “Just a short 10 minute drive, the Maize and Blue made sure to head straight to Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa as well as viewing four additional of his 15 paintings known to exist.

“The tour shifted to The Winged Victory of Samothrace featuring the Greek goddess Nike (“Victory”) and dating back to the beginning of the second century. After only scratching the surface of the massive museum, the Wolverines headed outside to take photos in front of the Pyramide du Louvre — designed by the Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei. The remaining afternoon was allotted time for the Wolverines to take in the sites on their own, or shop!

“Following free time in the afternoon, the Wolverines assembled for their final dinner at Chez Francis before heading for a traditional team photo in front of the Eiffel Tower. The evening was capped off with a Seine River Cruise and farewell to Paris.”

The Michigan team was set to depart early Sunday morning for a flight to Athens, Greece, and the second leg of its trip.
