The Michigan Wolverines continue their build-out of Dusty May’s first roster as men’s basketball head coach with two more additions on Monday in Ohio State transfer guard Roddy Gayle Jr. and Alabama forward Sam Walters.

With the work put in thus far, Michigan has a pair of scholarship spots remaining, and potentially more if guard/forward Jace Howard and guard Nimari Burnett elect not to return for fifth seasons. Their statuses are unknown at this point.

So far, it appears Michigan and May are thrilled with the additions. Other players added to the mix since Friday include 2024 guard Justin Pippen, North Texas guard Rubin Jones, Auburn point guard Tre Donaldson and Yale Center Danny Wolf. Both Pippen and Jones officially signed with the program on Monday

“Our roster is almost complete,” May said on Jon Rothstein’s podcast. “We’ll continue to add probably another piece or two — and it might be youth, it might be someone that’s just a fit. And that could look like a number of things. But we’re almost complete.

“The rosters are always changing, and you said it best with ‘Portal Kombat.’ But the portal stops for no one, so we have to stay on our toes, but we’re really, really close to having a team that will look like the team we put on the floor in four, five months.”

Michigan quote of the day

“[Running the offense is] kind of the baseline expectation for what a Michigan quarterback is going to look like. It’s what made Cade McNamara very good a couple of years ago. It was the foundation that helped J.J. McCarthy take the step the did over these last few years.

“I think there’s something to be said about Sherrone Moore and Kirk Campbell calling a good offense. So to just run the offense and not make mistakes and be on time, be on task, I was impressed with what we saw from him as well. There was a very clear tier between Orji and Warren and then what we saw the rest of the way.”
