Michigan basketball bracketology roundup: Where Wolverines stand to end February

The Michigan Wolverines are a shoo-in for the 2025 NCAA Tournament after missing the last two postseasons. Now, it is just a matter of where they wind up on the seeding line.
U-M sits at 20-6 on the season and 12-3 in conference play in a remarkable first-year turnaround under head coach Dusty May. It also finds itself in the thick of the Big Ten regular season title race, which allows it to move into a higher standing in the eyes of the selection committee.
There are still five games to go and plenty can change. Here is a look at the updated bracketologist prognostications heading into the last week of February.
Bracket Matrix
The best composite look at where U-M stands on the seed line comes from the 2025 Bracket Matrix, which takes the average seed from 87 brackets across the college basketball landscape to project a team’s standing. Michigan currently sits on the 4-seed line with an average of 3.49, though not all outlets have been updated as of Sunday or Monday. Michigan State is just ahead of them at 3.47 and barely on the 3-line as of Monday morning.
On3
On3’s James Fletcher did a Sunday bracket projection, which puts Michigan as the No. 5 seed in the South Region. In that scenario, Michigan will head to Seattle to take on No. 12 McNeese. Auburn and Houston are the region’s No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively.

T-Rank
Bart Torvik’s T-Ranketology currently has Michigan finishing the year as a 4-seed despite sitting currently on its 5-line, along with Purdue, Clemson and Kansas. There are no mock brackets or region projections on the website.
NBC Sports’ Aidan Berg
Berg, like most, has Michigan as a No. 4 seed heading into Monday night’s game at Nebraska.
“It may have been premature to hail Michigan as the Big Ten’s best team,” Berg wrote. “Close wins over Purdue and Ohio State could be attributed to good fortune, and the Spartans dealt their rival a healthy reality check with a 13-point win in Ann Arbor. Now, Michigan faces a packed week against three talented teams.”
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi
It’s worth noting that Lunardi’s most recent website update came on Feb. 21, so this is a bit dated given the weekend’s results. Regardless, Lunardi had Michigan as a No. 4 seed out in Seattle taking on Lipscomb, the 13-seed. He took to X/Twitter on Sunday afternoon to update his projection, keeping Michigan as a 4-seed in the East.
CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm
Similar to his peer at ESPN, Palm’s projection was last updated Friday morning, where he had Michigan as a No. 3 seed in the East region taking on No. 14 Towson, facing the winner of No. 6 UCLA and a no. 11 seed from the play-in game.
