Michigan basketball: Top 30 standout and big man Quinn Costello commits to U-M

Michigan basketball has landed a huge pledge from the 2026 class in Quinn Costello, head coach Dusty May continuing his incredible success on the recruiting trail. The Wolverines were in good shape heading into the weekend visit and have emerged with yet another fantastic player.
Rivals.com’s Jamie Shaw reported where Michigan stood heading in:
Quinn Costello took a jump into the Rivals top-30 after his stellar play this summer. The 6-foot-10 forward came out with a final six schools in early August. The schools that made that cut are Michigan, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, UNC, and Texas. Costello has reported official visits to Purdue, Minnesota, and Michigan State. The four-star is scheduled to visit Michigan next weekend.
Heading into his trip with the Wolverines, Michigan is the school that sources talk about the most with me. One source went as far as to suggest they are watching the Michigan visit closely. With that, I am told that the Michigan State visit went well and that Purdue is still being mentioned. There is some excitement mounting, so continue to watch the intel that comes from the visits and if a commitment date starts to emerge.
“I’d say I’m a 6’10”, long, versatile, wing forward,” Costello told On3 earlier this year. “I play a lot of the floor, I guard more fours and fives than threes, but I’d say I’m pretty flexible. I can really shoot it, that’s like my number one strength. I’ve been known as a knockdown shooter for most of my life, but I’ve started to do a lot more, like putting on the floor, driving closeouts, offensive rebounding, running the floor, all that stuff.
“The relationship piece is going to be big for me. I’m most successful when coaches really trust me, and I really trust coaches, and we have a super strong, unbreakable relationship. I say it a lot, and I hate to say it, but if basketball doesn’t work out, I’m still at a school where I’m set up for success.”
Costello had had a good relationship with Dusty May and his assistants heading into the visit. He emerged a Wolverine.

“That’s a great coaching staff,” he said. “I find myself to be most successful in systems where the player-coach relationship is more than just passing a player-coach, when you really get to know each other. So, I really value that, and so do they. I really like that about them.
“It’s Michigan. The Big House. They took me everywhere, and all the facilities are amazing. The football field is ginormous. It’s awesome.”
