Newsstand: Desmond Howard takes shot at Ohio State during Heisman ceremony
Michigan football pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson did not come away with the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. However, he was involved in one of the ceremony’s viral moments.
Hutchinson said during the ceremony that one of his goals for 2021 was to beat Ohio State and win a Big Ten title. Following that comment, Tim Tebow thanked Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett for standing between Hutchinson and Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud.
“I’m glad you’re in between them. It’s good. Please stay there,” Tebow said.
“Better than his offensive lineman,” former Wolverine and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard retorted.
Hutchinson recorded 15 quarterback pressures, the most tracked since 2014 by Pro Football Focus, in the 42-27 win over Ohio State on Nov. 27. His dream season came to pass with a win over the Buckeyes and a 42-3 drubbing of Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game.
Hutchinson finished second in the Heisman race behind Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. Pickett and Stroud finished third and fourth, respectively. Hutchinson finished the season with a school-record 14 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss.
Buckeye fans have been taking all kinds of shots over the last few weeks but will have to get used to it throughout the offseason. Michigan is the Big Ten’s College Football Playoff representative and will take on Georgia on Dec. 31 at the Orange Bowl.
