Michigan football: Harbaugh hires a new Player Personnel Director

Jim Harbaugh has brought back Tom Gamble to be the Michigan director of player personnel, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Gamble will replace Courtney Morgan in the role after Morgan left in December for the same job at Washington.

Gamble spent last season as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ senior personnel executive under GM Trent Baalke. Harbaugh had Gamble on his Michigan staff from 2017-19; he was also on the San Francisco 49ers’ staff from 2004-12 and 2015-16.
Gamble’s first stint with the 49ers overlapped with Harbaugh’s tenure as head coach. In 2017, Harbaugh added Gamble to U-M’s personnel staff and was with the team until 2019. Gamble was on the San Francisco 49ers’ staff from 2004-12 and 2015-16, the former of those stint coincided with Harbaugh’s tenure as head coach.
Gamble has also worked for several NFL teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens. He spent 2020 as the Montreal Alouettes G.M. in the Canadian Football League.

Harbaugh completd his on-field coaching staff moves by hiring defensive coordinator Jesse Minter from Vanderbilt. He also promoted Grant Newsome to tight ends coach from graduate assistant and made quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss co-offensive coordinator.
Jay Harbaugh moved from tight ends to safeties coach, while running backs coach Mike Hart added run game coordinator duties to his title.
