Michigan football injury report: Some bad news heading into The Game with OSU

Michigan fullback Max Bredeson suffered a lower body injury in the first half of the Wolverines’ 45-20 win at Maryland Saturday, emerging in street clothes, on crutches, and in a boot in the second half. Head coach Sherrone Moore updates his and safety Rod Moore’s status for the big one with Ohio State during his Monday press conference …

The Wolverines would obviously be much better off if both captains played against the Buckeyes. Unfortunately, it appears neither will go. There have been rumblings that Moore would play Saturday (his fourth game, meaning he could still redshirt), but the Michigan coach said he would be out Saturday and likely done for the season, still recovering from the knee injury he suffered in spring nearly two years ago now.

Moore, of course, has been a Buckeye killer in his years here. The Ohio native picked off the pass and “called game” in the 2023 contest, and while he missed last year’s game, he was on the sidelines for his fourth straight win over his home state team.

As for Bredeson, the Wolverines’ devastating lead blocker, the X-rays “didn’t look great,” Moore reported.

“We’ll see,” Moore said, “You know, if anybody can push through it, it’s Max Bredeson. So, we’ll know more as we go through the week.”

Receiver Semaj Morgan missed last week’s game due to undisclosed reasons but “will be fine,” the Michigan coach added. Linebacker and senior captain Ernest Hausmann also stayed home for reasons not announced … he’ll be “day to day,” Moore reported. Hausmann had one of his best performances of the year last season at Ohio State and could be a valuable piece.

He posted something of an update on X today:

“Crazy week last week but want to say thank you for your patience. As my calling has been presented to me I just want you all to know that we are not all together just because. We are a team that was supposed to be combined for the greater purpose of God. We are called to go and transform the world by using our knowledge and wisdom from what we have learned in America to go out and change the world.

I am thankful to have you all on this team. Let’s go do what we are called to do. #goblue #TheGame
