Michigan offensive lineman Evan Link needed to be carted from the field during Saturday’s 24-7 win over Washington with what appeared to be a significant lower body injury. Head coach Sherrone Moore updated his status after the game, as well as Ernest Hausmann (also banged up), Rod Moore, Justice Haynes, and others.

Blake Frazier replaced Link and played well at left tackle, for the most part. He might be playing for a while based on the injury.

“Evan, I’m not really sure,” head coach Moore said when asked about his status. “It doesn’t look too good. I know it was a lower body thing, but we’ll see how he does.”

Michigan running back Justice Haynes [upper body] and safety Rod Moore [lower body] were “gametime decisions,” Moore said. Haynes worked out with the first team in warmups, but Jordan Marshall took the carries and notched a career day with 25 carries for 133 yards. Moore dressed but didn’t play.

“They practiced though the week. We always err on the side [of caution], even sometimes when they want to go, making sure they’re full strength before we do anything,” Moore said. “They were just gametime deicsions. [Moore] practiced these past couple days, but again, you’re always going to do what’s in the best interest of the kid, even if they want to go. He probably could have gone, but we just felt like it wasn’t that time.

“Guys that practice leading up to the game, you feel like they’re ready. You get to the game, they go through warmups and you say, ‘okay — that doesn’t look exactly right.’ Those are the things we make decisions off of.”

Linebacker Ernest Hausmann went down late with what appeared to be a lower leg injury, but he walked off under his own power.

“He’ll be fine,” Moore said.

And both Michigan tight ends, Marlin Klein and Hogan Hansen, were sidelined, as well. That created opportunity for Zack Marshall, who caught a key touchdown pass and earned a game ball, as well as Deakon Tonielli.

“Both of them possibly [could have gone]. They’ll return soon,” Moore said. “But that room is deep. I think Coach [Steve] Casula does a really good job coaching those guys. All those guys have ability … talk about next man up, that room, the next guy’s got to go.”
