Michigan will be without head coach Jim Harbaugh for the first three games of the season due to a school-imposed suspension stemming from an alleged NCAA violation. Thursday evening, Harbaugh announced how the Wolverines will move forward with acting head coaches for each game, announcing four.

Game one: Sept. 2 vs. East Carolina — defensive coordinator Jesse Minter
Game two: Sept. 9 vs. UNLV — special teams coordinator and safeties coach Jay Harbaugh (first half) and run game coordinator and running backs coach Mike Hart (second half)
• Game three: Sept. 16 vs. Bowling Green — offensive coordinator and line coach Sherrone Moore

Moore and Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome are expected to miss the East Carolina game with suspensions by the NCAA as part of a negotiated resolution with U-M due to alleged Level II violations.

In addition, Harbaugh announced that director of strength and conditioning Ben Herbert has been named Michigan’s associate head coach and Harbaugh’s father, longtime former football coach Jack Harbaugh, is now the Wolverines’ assistant head coach. Those moves are on a permanent basis.

Jack Harbaugh accepted the secondary coach job for Michigan in 1973, some 50 years ago, under head coach Bo Schembechler. Jack assisted Jim at both San Diego and Stanford in the past, and has been a special assistant to his youngest son during the latter’s tenure at Michigan.

According to The Wolverine’s EJ Holland, Michigan is in the top two along with LSU for 2025 Belleville (Mich.) High five-star-plus quarterback Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in his class.

Michigan football announced its 2023 captains Thursday — graduate defensive back and returning captain Mike Sainristil, graduate left guard Trevor Keegan, graduate linebacker Michael Barrett, senior running back Blake Corum, senior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and senior right guard Zak Zinter.

Quote Of The Day

“It’s everything I expected, man. Everything is going as planned. And that’s the amazing thing. When I first got injured I was like, dang, but now I’m happy I got injured. A lot of people won’t say that, but it taught me things and gave me a new perspective. But everything going as planned. I’m back and I’m ready.”
