Newsstand: Joel Klatt names J.J. McCarthy a 2024 Heisman Contender

The Michigan Wolverines have an uncertain future at quarterback depending on the decision that J.J. McCarthy makes for the 2024 campaign. If he returns, he is considered one of the leading candidates for the Heisman Trophy in 2024.
FOX analyst Joel Klatt agrees, ranking the Michigan quarterback inside the top five of his Heisman board for next season. Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe fill out the top two spots with McCarthy in third, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in fourth and Colorado’s Shadeur Sanders in the No. 5 spot.
“I don’t know if JJ McCarthy is going to declare for the NFL Draft. I think a lot of it has to do with and will depend on how they do in the postseason in the College Football Playoff. They have a chance if the right guys come back. You know he’s going to have Colston Loveland, his tight end, he’s likely going to have Donovan Edwards, and there’s a chance Roman Wilson could come back if he doesn’t like his draft stock. They’ve got some really good young players. They’ve got an offensive line that’s going to be solid in front of them.”

Michigan quote of the day
“This is another one we get often. Whether or not junior Donovan Edwards returns — and we think he could and should — Michigan will bring in another back in the portal. They’ve already begun looking. We also believe there will be a bigger role for Kalel Mullings, who we thought should have gotten more carries this year. Frosh Benjamin Hall, too, will be a factor.
Who will lead the team in yardage, though? That’s a tough one, and something we’ll revisit in the next few months. It wouldn’t surprise, at all, if he’s not on the roster yet.”
