Michigan football has lofty goals and aspirations ahead of the 2023 campaign, but taking care of business at home is always of great importance. The rivalry with the MSU Spartans has only gotten more heated with each year, but U-M cannot afford to stumble in East Lansing this time around.

The Wolverine’s John Borton and co-host Tom Crawford discussed the rivalry on their latest live show on our YouTube channel.

“I love talking about Michigan vs. MSU because it is near and dear to my heart,” Crawford said during this week’s show. “It’s the most important athletic event that happens in the entire year to me, which Michigan fans will roll their eyes. Like, who gives a rip about Michigan State? I mean that used to be the kind of reaction I got. Maybe not so much lately.

“I think Michigan State has gotten U-M’s attention in an angst kinda way and the tunnel incident last year. Certainly added a little gasoline on the fire and other things, and just the way this rivalry has gone.”

“Emotionally, I am the least worried going into Michigan/MSU game in East Lansing since the 1983 game in George Pearles first year when Michigan shelled [the Spartans], 42-0.”
