Michigan football has revealed its uniform combination for Saturday night’s matchup with Michigan State (7:30 p.m. ET on ABC). For a second straight game, the Wolverines will go with blue jerseys and blue pants, along with maize accessories. That includes maize socks, marking the second time U-M has sported them in history, joining the Sept. 24 game against Maryland in which the team wore maize pants.

Michigan provided a look at the uniform combination on social media.

The combination is being referred to as “big game blues” by some fan circles. This will be the fifth time Michigan has ever gone with blue on blue at home and the sixth time overall.

The first came against Penn State in 2014, an 18-13 U-M victory under the lights. The second was last year’s ‘maize out’ game against Washington, a 31-10 win, also a night game. The third was a 42-27 rivalry game victory over Ohio State last November. And the fourth was this season’s 41-17 win over Penn State Oct. 15. The lone other occurrence came in the Orange Bowl last December, a 34-11 loss to Georgia.

Coincidence or not, the “big game blues” have led to big rushing yard totals from the Wolverines at The Big House, with the team racking up 343 against Washington, 297 against Ohio State and 418 against Penn State.

Saturday night will mark the ninth time Michigan will wear blue pants in program history, including four games with white jerseys all in the last season and a half — a 38-17 triumph at Wisconsin, a 59-18 win at Maryland, a 42-3 drubbing of Iowa in the Big Ten championship game in 2021, and a 27-14 win over Iowa Oct. 1.

Michigan football flyover, light show and more planned for Saturday night

In addition to the matchup with the Spartans, Michigan has several different festivities planned for Saturday night at The Big House.

Prior to kickoff, over 150 Michigan football alumni players will be recognized on the field. There will be a flyover by US Coast Guard H-65 Helicopters, as well.

At halftime, the Michigan Marching Band will celebrate Dia de Los Muertos with a “vibrant celebration of Latin American music and heritage.”

In the third quarter, there will be a light show and singalong to the song, Mr. Brightside by The Killers.

During the game, former Michigan defensive lineman Mark Messner will be recognized. He was recently inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022 and is set to be honored as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
