Former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore detained by police in Saline, Mich.
Former Michigan Wolverines football head coach Sherrone Moore was fired for cause Wednesday afternoon. Later in the evening, news broke from ESPN that he’s been detained by police in Saline, Mich., and turned over to police in Pittsfield Township for investigation into potential charges.
“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore,” the department told ESPN. “Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”
The reason for his detainment has not yet been reported on.
The Wolverine’s Anthony Broome reported Wednesday evening that the Washtenaw County jail told him that no inmates by Moore’s name were booked today.

Moore was let go following his second regular season as Michigan’s head coach, due to an investigation that resulted in the conclusion that he engaged in an improper relationship with a staff member. Moore was fired for cause, meaning he won’t be owed the remainder of his contract.
Moore went 17-8 as Michigan’s head coach, missing the College Football Playoff both seasons. His biggest victory was a 13-10 upset of Ohio State in November 2024.
The Wolverines are set to take on Texas in the Dec. 31 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
