Newsstand: Sherrone Moore reviews head coaching debut
The Michigan Wolverines were helmed by offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore on Saturday with head coach Jim Harbaugh serving the final game of his school-imposed three-game suspension on Saturday.
It was a sloppy outing in a 31-6 win over Bowling Green, but Moore was able to get the experience running the show as a head coach and now gets to help the team clean up some mistakes with Harbaugh back in the fold this week.
“First, being the head coach, it was exciting,” Moore said after the game. “We have a great staff so that helped a lot. The guys are extremely supportive and, obviously, our players are awesome. In the first half, the first drive was really successful on the ground and trying to stay balanced with everything. The second drive, we drive all the way down there again and we’re not spaced up and then we have a pick, that all equates to it. It wasn’t a bad throw, we weren’t spaced up on the outside so that equated to bringing the corner in there and throwing a pick. Get the bell again and keep it moving, just a bad read. Things that we have to clean up, things we have to be better at. Thought we ran the ball better, thought we asserted ourselves on the line of scrimmage better today. Backs ran extremely hard, extremely physical. So continue to build on that.”
For the third week in a row, Michigan failed to cover a large spread. In Saturday’s game against Bowling Green, the Wolverines were favored by 40.5 points. Early on, it looked like they were well on their way. But the game of football will humble you if you do not bring your best game.

“Humbled,” Moore said. “You live, you learn, you continue to progress. As long as you learn from it, you’ve progressed and you get better. I think you always gotta be humble in everything. You never play a perfect game and, obviously, we’ve got stuff to fix and we will. We’ll continue to put our head down and work to get to where we want to be.”

Michigan quote of the day
“I’m going to take all of those on the chin and put them all on me. There’s a lot of stuff that obviously didn’t go my way, didn’t go the offense’s way but I can’t wait to watch the tape to see the mistakes that were made and get better from it, honestly. I’m going to take those on the chin. They’re on me.”
