Stats & Honors for Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class

Michigan signed 23 recruits for the class of 2023 on National Signing Day on Wednesday, with a haul that ranks No. 20 overall in the country, per the On3 Consensus. Below is an in-depth look at the high school stats, honors and how their respective teams fared for each of Michigan’s signees as juniors and seniors.
EDGE Enow Etta, Colleyville (Tex.) Covenant Academy
Honors: Set to compete in the Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. 2022 Whataburger Super Team Finalist. Two-time District Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and 2021. No. 119 player in the country, No. 13 defensive lineman nationally, No. 22 player in the state of Texas, according to On3 Consensus. No. 118 player in the country, No. 13 defensive lineman, and No. 24 player in the state of Texas, according to On3.com.
Stats: 122 total tackles, including 34.0 tackles for loss, with 20 sacks, five forced fumbles and two touchdowns in 2022. Led all Texas high school players in sacks as a junior with 22.5.
Team: Won the Texas Association for Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state title in 2020.
WR Karmello English, Phenix City (Ala.) Central
Honors: Set to compete in the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando, Florida. No. 191 player in the country, No. 25 wide receiver nationally, and No. 15 player in Alabama, according to On3 Consensus. No. 51 wide receiver nationally and No. 19 player in Alabama, according to On3.
Stats: Caught 75 receptions for 850 yards with 11 touchdowns as a senior. Caught 70 passes for 1,059 yards with 18 touchdowns in 2021. Recorded six combined rushing touchdowns as an upperclassmen.
Team: Advanced to the Alabama Class 7A semifinal in 2022 and the Alabama Class 7A finals in 2021. Won 24 total games in his final two years at Central High.
CB Jyaire Hill, Kankakee (Ill.) High
Honors: Competed in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in Frisco, Texas, in 2022. Chicago Sun-Times All-Area team honors in 2022. Named the Southland Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. No. 197 player in the country, No. 25 cornerback nationally, and No. 3 player in Illinois, according to On3 Consensus. No. 112 player in the country, No. 15 cornerback nationally, and No. 2 player in Illinois, according to On3.com.
Stats: As a senior, totaled 42 tackles, including five tackles for loss with two sacks, three forced fumbles and three interceptions. Finished with 56 tackles, nine interceptions and six forced fumbles in 2021.
Team: Part of a Class 5A Illinois state runner-up team that went 14-1 as a junior. Won eight games in 2022.
RB Cole Cabana, Dexter (Mich.) High
Honors: Detroit Free Press Dream Team in 2022. MLive 2022 Michigan High School Football Player of the Year in 2022. Two-time first-team MHSAAA honoree as a junior and senior. No. 200 player in the country, No. 13 running back nationally, and No. 2 player in the state of Michigan, according to the On3 Consensus. No. 154 player in the country, No. 7 running back nationally, and No. 3 player in the state of Michigan, according to On3.com.
Stats: Totaled 2,434 all-purpose yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior, rushing for 1,518 yards with 27 touchdowns, recording 472 receiving yards with six touchdowns, and three returned touchdowns on special teams.
Team: Led Dexter to an SEC Red Division title, the program’s first conference title since 1963, and an MHSAA Division II semifinals appearance. Won 12 games in 2022, the most in school history.
LB Semaj Bridgeman, Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Charter
Honors: Nominated for the high school Butkus Award which honors the top linebacker in the country. Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery media All-Area second team defense honors in 2021. No. 284 player in the country, No. 26 linebacker nationally, and No. 5 player in the state of Pennsylvania, according to On3 Consensus. No. 299 player in the country, No. 29 linebacker nationally, and No. 6 player in the state of Pennsylvania, according to On3.com.
Stats: Totaled 27 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and three forced fumbles with one returned for a touchdown in his first five games at Imhotep Charter.
Team: Appeared in the state finals in his senior year with Imhotep Charter after transferring from suburban Philadelphia-area Archbishop Wood, where he played as a junior.
OT Evan Link, Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga
Honors: Two-time first-team All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) as a junior and senior. First-team Class AA All-State recipient in 2021. No. 290 overall player in the country, No. 22 offensive tackle nationally, and No. 3 player in Washington D.C., according to On3 Consensus. No. 133 overall player in the country, No. 11 offensive tackle nationally, and No. 2 player in Washington D.C., according to On3.com.
Stats: Anchored an offensive line that averaged more than 21 points per game in 2022.
Team: Led Gonzaga to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) semifinals in 2022.
IOL Amir Herring, West Bloomfield (Mich.) High
Honors: Set to compete in the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando, Florida, and the Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. Two-time Detroit Free Press All-State honors. Stats: Recorded more than 240 pancake blocks in his career as a four-year starter, making 46 straight starts. Only allowed one sack in his final three years at West Bloomfield High.
Team: Won eight games in the regular season in 2022. Captured the 2020 MHSAA Division I state title as a sophomore.
TE Deakon Tonielli, Oswego (Ill.) High
Honors: Special Mention All-State honors by the Champaign News-Gazette and Beacon-News/Courier-News All-Area Team honors in 2022. No. 377 player in the country, No. 22 tight end nationally, and No. 6 player in the state of Illinois, according to On3 Consensus. No. 17 tight end nationally and No. 3 player in the state of Illinois, according to On3.com.
Stats: Caught 42 passes for 550 yards with five touchdowns in 2022. Caught 32 passes for 385 yards with two touchdowns in 2021.
Team: Won six games as a junior and advanced to the playoffs.
CB Cameron Calhoun, Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods
Honors: Earned first-team All-Ohio honors in 2022 after receiving second-team honors in 2021. Two-time first-team All-District as a junior and senior. No. 441 player in the country, No. 47 cornerback nationally, and No. 14 player in the state of Ohio, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Holds the record for most career interceptions in Winton Woods history with 14. Recorded 52 tackles, including three tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups and five interceptions as a senior.
Team: Won the OHSAA Division III state title in 2021 and advanced to the regional semifinals in 2022.
IOL Nathan Efobi, Cumming (Ga.) South Forsyth
Honors: Two-time first-team Region 6-7A All-Region in 2022 and 2021. Atlanta Journal-Constitution All-Metro honoree in 2021. No. 458 player in the country, No. 38 interior offensive lineman nationally, and No. 47 player in the state of Georgia, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Started for an offense that averaged 23 points per game in 2022. Also started along the defensive line, totaling four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble as a senior
Team: Reached the Region 6 Class 7A state championship with an 8-3 record in 2021. Won six games with a playoff berth in 2022.
DL Trey Pierce, Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice
Honors: Chicago Sun-Times All-Area team and Daily Southtown Football All-Area team in 2022. CCL/ESCC Blue All-Conference honorees and CCL/ESCC Blue Co-Lineman of the Year in 2022. No. 497 player in the country, No. 53 defensive lineman nationally, and No. 7 player in the state of Illinois, according to the On3 Consensus. Stats: Recorded 58 tackles with 19 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a senior.
Team: Reached the Class 7A quarterfinal as a senior and won 10 games as a junior.
WR Semaj Morgan, West Bloomfield (Mich.) High
Honors: Competed in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in Frisco, Texas, in 2022. Named to Detroit Free Press Dream Team in 2022. Stats: Scored 14 touchdowns on 43 receptions for 733 yards through the air as a senior. Also took reps at quarterback, throwing for five touchdowns. On defense, started at safety and recorded more than one interception returned for a touchdown. Also handled punt and kick return responsibilities.
Team: Won eight games in the regular season in 2022. Captured the 2020 MHSAA Division I state title as a sophomore.
TE Zack Marshall, Carlsbad (Calif.) High
Honors: Named tight end MVP of the 2022 Elite 11 Camp. No. 515 player in the country, No. 26 tight end nationally, and No. 44 player in the state of California, according to On3 Consensus. No. 27 tight end nationally and No. 32 player in the state of California, according to On3.com.
Stats: Caught 23 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns as a senior in his one year at Carlsbad after transferring from San Diego (Calif.) Sante Fe Christian, where he caught 44 passes for 1,012 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior.
Team: Went 10-2 and appeared in the Open Division title game for Carlsbad. Advanced to the playoffs with a 10-2 record in 2021 with Santa Fe Christian.

ATH Jason Hewlett, Youngstown (Ohio) Chaney
Honors: WKBN Big 22 Class of 2022 member. First-team All-State defense in Division III OPSWA All-Ohio and Northeast Inland first-team All-District honors in 2022. No. 574 player in the country, No. 58 linebacker nationally, and No. 16 player in the state of Ohio, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Totaled 59 tackles, including nine tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles as a senior. Also caught 14 passes for 317 yards with three touchdowns on offense.
Team: Helped Chaney finish with its winningest season in program in 2022 with 10 wins.
DL Brooks Bahr, Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy
Honors: Chicago Sun-Times All-Area team honors, CCL/ESCC Blue lineman of the year and CCL/ESCC Blue All-Conference performer in 2022. No. 629 player in the country, No. 65 defensive lineman nationally, and No. 13 player in the state of Illinois, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Finished with 49 tackles and 25 solo with seven tackles for loss and two sacks as a senior. Totaled 46 tackles and 17 solo with eight for loss, three sacks, and one forced fumble in 2021.
Team: Led Loyola Academy to a Class 8A championship with a 13-1 record in 2022.
CB D’Juan Waller Jr., Youngstown (Ohio) Chaney

QB/ATH Kendrick Bell, Kansas City (Mo.) Park Hill
Honors: Named the Most Outstanding High School Football Player in the Kansas City area in 2022. Kansas City Suburban Conference Silver Division first team honors and Class 6 District 4 first-team All-District honors in 2022. Stats: Completed 224-of-339 pass attempts (72%)) with 35 passing touchdowns as a senior. Added 670 rushing yards and another 10 touchdowns on the ground.
Team: A part of two playoff teams at Park Hill in career and won one game in the postseason as both a junior and senior.
EDGE Aymeric Koumba, Paris (France)
Honors: No. 952 overall prospect in the 2023 class and No. 80 EDGE rusher nationally, according to On3 Consensus. No. 68 EDGE rusher nationally, according to On3.com.
Team: Attended Lycée Alfred Kastler, part of the Pionniers de Touraine organization, capturing the French Championship with his school in the summer of 2022.
RB Benjamin Hall, Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb
Honors: Honorable mention 5-7A All-Region in 2022. Second-team 3-7A All-Region in 2021. No. 1,038 overall player in the 2023 class, No. 100 player in the state of Georgia, and No. 74 running back in the country, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Played six games as a senior, recording 324 yards and four touchdowns on 61 carries, with nine receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Compiled 543 yards and eight touchdowns on 95 rushing attempts as a junior.
Team: Led North Cobb to consecutive regional titles as a junior and senior. Won nine games in 2022.
LB Breeon Ishmail, Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton

Team: Led Princeton to a playoff appearance in his lone season with the school after transferring from nearby Hamilton. Won nine games in 2022.
LB Hayden Moore, Aurora (Co.) Regis Jesuit
Honors: Denver Post first-team All-Colorado honors in 2022. Colorado High School Activities Association All-State honors as a senior. All-South League first-team honors in 2022. No. 1,232 player in the country, No. 111 linebacker nationally, and No. 8 player in the state of Colorado, according to On3 Consensus. Stats: Led the state of Colorado in total tackles with 197 this past season. Added seven sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble to his stat line in 2022.
Team: Advanced to the playoffs as a junior and season, winning a combined 15 games. Starts on the baseball team as a pitcher and has been offered by Michigan to dual-sport.
K Adam Samaha, Ann Arbor (Mich.) Huron
Honors: Competed in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in Frisco, Texas, in 2022. Five-star prospect, per Kornblue Kicking. Named to Detroit Free Press Dream Team in 2022. No. 8 kicker nationally and No. 34 player in the state of Michigan, according to On3 Consensus.
Stats: Converted 11-of-14 field goals with a 49-yard long as a senior and went 37-of-37 on extra point attempts. Hit 50 touchbacks on 56 kickoffs as a junior.
